Employing Staff


Alba Childcare Agency recruits and selects staff through a process of safe recruitment practises. The Individual possess the knowledge, skills, personal attributes and qualifications, where appropriate, to work with Children. Stringent checks are made, being:

  • All applicants must complete company application form with signed documentation confirming that they know of no medical reason why they cannot work with children.
  • Structured interview carried out on all suitable applicants.
  • Enhanced Disclosures attained from the relevant organisation
  • DBS for staff in England - following guidelines, checking identification and Disclosure Number is noted on application form.
  • PVG for staff in Scotland - Disclosure Scotland following guidelines and checking identification. Disclosure Number is noted on application form for future reference and then destroyed through shredder. Where Disclosure is returned unsatisfactory then cross-reference taken up, where appropriate, with Scottish Social Services Council.
  • Checks with previous employers and two written references attained.
  • Verification of any qualification certificates relevant to application.
  • If throughout any checks, where individual is deemed unsuitable, no contract of employment will be offered.

The applicant is only offered a position when all the above criteria have been satisfactory carried out and relevant documentation received.


Equal Opportunities Policy

All Alba Childcare Agency staff working within a childcare setting must understand the importance of respecting a child’s individuality. All children have a right to equal access to all areas and equipment in the nursery, regardless of any special needs, they may or may not have and regardless of gender. It is important that adults respect and help develop positive attitudes towards different cultures, races and languages.


Managing Children’s Behaviour Policy

All Alba Childcare Agency staff working within a childcare setting should have a clear understanding of the need for care and control when managing children’s behaviour. Helping them to learn self-discipline, to behave in an appropriate and acceptable manner, to keep them safe, to get on well with others, to control anger and sort out disagreements. To be effective this needs to be positive and constructive.


Health and Safety Policy

Alba Childcare Agency promote the following policies: 

  • Remember to wear protective gloves and aprons when dealing with any bodily fluids.
  • Read all instructions on cleaning products before use.
  • A first aider is on the premises at all times and all injuries reported.
  • Alba Childcare Agency staff should make them self aware of appropriate fire drills, emergency exits, fire points and first aid boxes.
  • Suitable clothes and shoes should be worn at all times i.e. dark trousers (not jeans), flat shoes, jewellery should be kept to a minimum and hair tied back.
  • Alba Childcare Agency staff should familiarise themselves with individual nursery policies on entering the nursery.
  • No Smoking Policy applies to all nurseries and premises.


Alba Childcare Agency staff should be aware of the importance of maintaining confidentiality, they should:

  • Respect the children attending, their parents and the information about themselves they share.
  • Acknowledge that children and parents would not wish information they share to be further disclosed.
  • Accept as a professional obligation the need to protect the confidentiality of personal information disclosed.
  • Maintain the trust that a willingness to disclose personal information implies.
